Warning: Short Update Ahead
Dear Son,
Your brother's paranoia and superstitious behavior have gotten worse over these past month, I cannot endure another year waiting for this forced armistice to end with his constant dark murmuring. I've sent him home, you can take care of him. Put him somewhere quiet where he can't hurt anyone.
Your father, the King
Prince Rufus sighed. “I told him it would only get worse”. He turned to his messenger “Where is my brother, why did he not deliver this letter himself?”
The courier shrugged. “As soon as he got back, he took his soldiers off for some 'official business'”
“Great, yet another mad brother with an army.”
Really, the Pope's intervention had been a blessing to Rufus. Without his brother running wild in France Rufus had been able to secure England's holdings and build it into a respectable nation. With his father off in France waiting, he held all the power over the island's affairs.
His new brother-in-law arrived during this time, and Rufus finally had a brother who wasn't insane in one way or another. The two quickly came to a consensus, once the war with France was over they would need to keep the rest of the family from warring with every neighbor they could find.
The solution: Prepare an invasion of Russia. That should keep them occupied.
They needed a staging point first.
Ah Spring. The snow has melted, rabbits fill the lush French countryside, and the day to retake Paris had arrived. Captain Raymond couldn't be happier. Fresh and recuperated, this army was completely different than the one that had taken shelter in the castle walls three years ago, chased there by the rabid army of English hounds. Thank almighty God the pope is French.
Nothing could ruin his day. Well, except:
King William smiled. Once again the French had sent their archers to weaken his troops, and once again they had been decimated before they got anywhere close.
This Frenchman may look screwed, but he was one lucky ninja. It took forever for my men to hit him.
The battle was over quickly, nothing major. The city had only a token defense. Now the fun would begin...
Several months passed as the king's forces built siege engines to bring down the castle's might gate. The men were ready to march, the towers were ready to roll, the rams ready to thunder. As William's attendants finished buckling his cuirass, someone behind him coughed to get his attention. He turned to behold a man in the white robes of the Papal State.
Well then, several things to vote on.
With respect to France and the Pope. Wait it out again, ask for a ceasefire, kill them all?
It appears the Danes have captured the rest of Scandinavia. We don't necessarily need the rest, but it would give us a better striking point for the invasion of Russia (if we even want to do it). On the other hand, they are Catholic and more importantly, allied with the Holy Roman Empire. Our military may be second only to the Byzantines, but I don't want to test us against France, Denmark, and the Germans all at once. Back to the first hand, however, it would get us one step closer to Apples' suggestion of total war with everyone.
Food for thought.
