No one now living really knows how the invasion of the undead started. People roughly guess that it started a hundred or so years ago. But the how remains unknown. It has been speculated that it was the work of necromancers- something most do not believe for there is no one that has ever been known to be able to do anything similar to the terrible deeds they are known for; a virus is one of the more popular theories but, with no place funded, equipped enough, or big enough it remains a mystery.
Regardless of how it started doesn't change how things are now. Zombies out number there human counterparts by the hundreds of thousands. People are spread out across the planet. Many choose to live in small settlements so that they can watch each others backs. Many others choose to live alone or in small groups that move around constantly. Everyone stays away from the ruins of the once great cities that dominated the Earth for they seem to be the centers of zombie life.
Zombies are much like there human counterparts. They can run just as fast as one you'd expect to in there shape. They however cannot speak or function in a human society. They know one thing and one thing only and that is to eat flesh. If a non-zombie is bitten by a zombie then the change within two or three hours, it is a painful process. Zombies are only humanoids. Both of these facts support the virus theory for those who care enough to look into it. Another fact, perhaps the most terrifying to people is they can go on living for years without eating human flesh. They decay but slowly. The zombies that do get human flesh, stop decaying. So far the most effective way to kill a zombie that has been found is to destroy its brain. Even if beheaded the rest of the body with still try to get at you. {{I'm used to doing roleplays with a bunch of fancy rules and profiles. The whole nine yards. This time I'm just giving an intro and seeing where it goes. Just please keep weapons on the realistic side. A thirteen-year-old isn't going to run around with an AK-47. Besides seeing how long ago I made the zombie invasion start I doubt there are many functional AK-47's out there.
Also not sure if this was the right place to put this, if it is let me know and I'll post it elsewhere. =)
Have at it! }}

((Seems like the right place.))
"How are the barricades holding up?" asked Captain Petersen. This was the third night of the mindless siege being put up by the infected, and it was draining the resources of the settlement. They had only been here for a score and 5 nights before the first signs of struggle appeared during the full moon three nights ago.
"They will not hold for another night, Captain, but our last perimeter will stand until tomorrow's nightfall." said the Sergeant.
"Let us hope that that is enough time for the needed preparations." How did the world end up like this, Petersen asked himself. For the infected to be this widespread, enough to severely damage the defenses put up around the settlement, there must have been tens of millions, if not hundreds of millions, of humans populating the world before this horrid event started. "Hell, at least they chose this time of the moon phases to assault us. Any other night and we would have been caught with our swords sheathed. At the very least, we didn't have to use any of our small supply of gunpowder projectiles to hold them back."
The sergeant had a look of agreement and started to speak "That is tr-."
A horn bellowed out from the center of the outpost. Decoding the various pitches and timing of the signal, Petersen recognized it was an emergency meeting. He had wondered when it would take place. "Continue with your reinforcements, give the higher-ups as much time as possible to decide what we are going to do for the rest of tonight and throughout tomorrow." Petersen made sure to grab one of the squadron messengers and told him to relay the information about the status of the walls to the meeting that was starting. They would need all the information possible to get out of this without excessive casualties.
Petersen left the northeastern barricade and started to head towards the makeshift watchtower near the western edge of the settlement. He needed to make sure that they were not going to be flanked and that there was at least one way out of this mess.
((This post somewhat assumes that this is a settlement of people still attached to the governmental ideals of the US. It also has a relatively small army, numbering approximately 50 people in size. If you want anything different, just dance around my post and make your own descriptions of the situation))

{{Some people put zombies under sci-fi, which is why I was wondering. And you assumptions are fine, I like to leave things fairly vague when creating a roleplay so that the players have input.}}
Drew stretched and used a hand to cover a yawn. It had been a while since she had seen anything interesting. She always got stuck at the watch tower... Make shift watch tower to be more correct. She hated it, she hardly ever saw any action. 'Teach me to mouth off.... Get stuck in the safe areas.'
She sighed. It wasn't her fault she knew more about zombies that these settlement people. The only reason she ended up in a settlement is because her mother couldn't live off the land anymore. She was getting far to old. The doctor said that she had cancer, or something like that. Drew had never heard of such a thing, but her mother was sick. The redhead couldn't deny that.
She perked up when she heard whispers that the barricades were failing. As horrible as it was that cheered her up. It made her stop wallowing in self-pity. 'Finally things are getting interesting. I wonder how many of these city dwellers are green.' Drew had killed her first zombie when she was seven, pure luck. And she had broken her arm but such was the life of a wanderer.
"Look alive Drew, here comes the Captain."
She glared at her partner. If anything a captain showing up put here in a worse mood. Just what she needed, more people to tell her what to do. Hadn't the ever heard of 'every man for themselves'. I worked well in the wild she didn't see why it shouldn't work here.

Tavish sighed as he stood up from the grave. "Its just you and me now" he said while placing his hand on his younger brother's shoulder. The three brothers had been a long time hunting down his family, it would not be said that the Brodie clan had continued to contribute to the madness. His uncle had been the last one to be found, he had moved the furthest away when they immigrated to the U.S., only he didn't go alone, he took Alastair with him.
He continued to survey the vast expanse of desert before him, wondering where if anywhere, someone else could be found that was still sane.
"You do have to give Da some credit on our being alive so far, if he hadn't insisted on bringing that old suit of armor from the highlands...then again uncle nearly bit through the chain mail gloves this time, we need to find out if anyone else is out there, come on." He said while walking away, securing the long sword, assorted knives, gauntlets and top half of a chain mail shirt under his shirt, the whole thing being to heavy and left behind long since, except what his brother had taken.
"East it is..."
