Each system will have it's own sub-board. If the sub-board you want isn't up, just start it here and PM me (Apples) and I'll make one and move the thread into it. Basically, if you want to start a thread and run it, do what you want with it. It's your thread. Here's some guidelines and information on how to use the nifty die rule feature.
The die roller is the nice looking button in the "Add Tags:" section of the "Post Message" pages. Basically, if you're typing up your new thread or reply and you want/need a die roll click the button that looks like this:
That pretty button will insert a line of code into your post that looks like: [dice=X] where "X" is a number. That number corresponds to the number of sides the die you're rolling has. The coding in the footer of the forum will then randomly generate a number that you rolled and when you post it will display something that looks like: [dice=20]
The image displays both your roll, and the number of sides. Thanks to some snazzy coding, once your roll has been generated, it's pretty much permanent. Editing your post, deleting [dice=X] and reclicking the button, clicking it again and then deleting the first one, and any other tactics you attempt will not alter the outcome of the roll.
Now, say you're playing some game, and you want to make an attack and include your character's attack bonus or something. You could type something like [dice=X]+Y and get something like [dice=20] + 5 , but instead you should probably just use [dice=X+Y], and thanks again to the cool programming.... [dice=20+5] Ta da! Again, these die rolls can't be changed once generated, so even changing the number you add or subtract to them will not alter the roll, just the number presented based on the alterations.
Currently, the default die number for the Chess board is 2 (a coin flip to determine who is which color), 6 for the Shadowrun board (because that's all Shadowrun uses), and 20 for everywhere else (because I imagine most dice games played here will be d20 based). If you want a different number, just backspace it out and type whatever you want. It's pretty straightforward.
And now for a string of die rolls: [dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20] That should all average out close-ish to 10.5, though obviously not perfectly. The point is though, for the most part it is good about being random. Also, you can't roll more than 65 dice in a single post. I've rolled 64 so far. If I try to keep going.... [dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20][dice=20] NaN. Yay. So, keep excessive die rolling to a minimum, I guess.
Anyway, that's your "how to use the dice feature" walkthrough. If you have any questions just post away.[rand=13282587698099324967922207319759870698726944593266629524495632689]
